The Bowie knife and its Variations, are surely the Kings among Knives.
I forged this Gaucho inspired blade from 1084 Carbon Steel with Hammer and Anvil.
It was heat treated using clay to achieve a differential heat treat, hard edge and softer spine creating a hamon!
I chose to keep the polish rather rough though to achieve a contrast between blade and handle.
The Grip was sculpted from a fine piece of dyed, stabilized maple burl.
In addition I used brass, leather and layers of fiber for Bolster and Guard.
All put in place with the best Epoxy available for knifemaking and secured with a fine Sakura Mosaic pin.
The Sheath was tooled in my signature style onto a piece of fine European Carving leather, dyed in dark brow, hand stitched with the finest thread available and finnished with several layers of oils and waxes.
I make knives for use!
They are supposed to perform within their intended limits.
This is a hunting, wilderness and historically inspired fighting knife.
